Hello...Almost ready to open…
My name is David Hooper, and A cappella comics is me.
This is a hidden update as of April 2009 (just updating info). I’m still not going to talk about the upcoming work, or myself (for now)…it’ll speak for itself. Besides I have a blurb up on the Prismcomics website <click here>… that will say all you need to know about it and me (and that’s not much).
In the Meantime...
Here are some places I think you should go and why…just click on the bold
Prism comics
Formed by gay comics fans and professionals with a passion for the medium, Prism Comics, is a nonprofit organization that supports lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered and questioning comics creators, and readers. I don’t endorse too many things, but this site is truly important to LGBTand Q comics community, and if you get to meet any of the creators or principles involved with the site (like former Prism president Charles "Zan" Christensen) you’ll find they are really good people. Check out the profiles of established greats like Alison Bechdel, Jennifer Camper, and Paige Braddock, or check out some newbies..here.
BGB Fantasy by Victor Hodge
That’s Black Gay Boy Fantasy to you! Good ole’ fashioned mini-comics, that deliver something that never goes out of style…wonderful art, solid stories and fun characters, that‘s the comics experience you want. Victor shares some of the qualities of the best cartoonists, delivering a wealth of information in a few strokes, plus a love of story and storytelling, he gets better with every issue. Check it out, also check out his Prism comics profile, not mention his fantastic blog.
Jaime and Gilbert Hernandez's Love & Rockets
If you know nothing about it, just run to the book store and ask for it, if you want to start with the web, start with or their Wikipedia page, it has plenty of links. The link above sends you to their official Fantagraphics page. I’m not going to say much, there’s too much to say, L&R is a permanent part of me, love it.
The comicbookqueers
Giving sexy new meaning to the phrase, "KNEEL BEFORE ZOD".
A great podcast, my fave, the only geeks I would geek out with (with exception of my personal crew, of course). Steve, Eric, Lindsey and Brett, giving critiques, criticism and madness, about comics and more…there’s no way you can always agree with them, but enjoy them…you can almost always do that. I miss ole’ crabby Katie. Visit them at their website, Itunes, and/or their messageboards (I joined, you should too!).
WordBalloon by John Siuntres
Another favorite podcast…well comics podcast. He’s the James Lipton of podcasting, he agrees and praises his guest so much sometimes you want to slap him…on the other hand he gets them to open up, and the interview can be quite informative and worth relistening to. Visit them at the above website, Itunes, or his myspace page.
Sidebar:Four Color Conversations on Comics, Art and Pop Culture- hosted by Dwight and Swain
Great nerdy hosts, with tons of knowledge and good humor, who happen to be great interviewers to boot. The proof is in the guest list: John Paul Leon, Marko Djurdjevic, Ryan Sook, James Jean, Jock, Mark Chiarello, Jason Pearson, Dave Johnson, even Wendy and Lisa of Prince and the Revolution fame and more! Shame on all of you if you don't know who these folks are, or better yet...click on their names and find out! A great podcast...start listening!
